fernvalleybonsaihouse FERN VALLEY BONSAI NURSERY Pre-bonsai, field cultivated stock and bonsai in pots About us: Located outside Tauranga, in Plenty Bay on the eastern coast of the northern island of New Zealand, we have established our bonsai collection and bonsai nursery in 2000. In this subtropical and moderate climate, enough rain, sun and fertile volcanic soils, the trees have flourished and we are pleased to present them with the possibility of acquiring a good trunk of thick tree and basic branches so that you can create your own masterpiece bonsai. We've been involved in bonsai since 1984. We started by joining the Pretoria Bonsai Club of Pretoria and learned from some of the experienced South African artists of Bonsai such as Theuns Roos (specialist in Ficus natalensis), Charles Ceronio and Leon Claasen (specialists in Thorntree / Acacia), Louis Nel (specialist in Budleja) and Matie and Joey Scheepers (epers) We then relocated to Port Elizabeth and joined the Bonsai Society of the Eastern Province and learned from Clifton Marais. Since 1997, we have attended and demonstrated national Bonsai conventions in South Africa. During our time in South Africa we attended workshops with international teachers such as John Naka, Ben Oki, Roy Nagatoshi, Vaughn Banting and Melba Tucker. In 2000, we migrated to New Zealand and moved a large part of our collection through the long and difficult quarantine process. Some trees remained quarantine for six months, others for two years. Some trees unfortunately did not survive due to the harsh treatment of naked trees flying in the middle of the world. We joined the club Bay of Plenty Bonsai in Tauranga and have participated in national shows and conventions in New Zealand ever since. The trees have adapted and we have begun to spread from South African trees, as well as to cultivate some native New Zealand species and American, European, Chinese and Japanese species. A large number of trees were planted on the open ground and cultivated to develop cultivated logs of field to be used as bonsai. These are usually raised during the winter months inactive and can be sent to growers in New Zealand by mail during July and August. Please take a look at our list of trees as well as photos on these cultivated bonsai trees. If you are interested, please give us a ring or email and come visit us.
